Dr. Veonda Emholtz, Principal

I am honored and thrilled to introduce myself as the  Principal of The Bailey School for Performing and Visual Arts. As I step into this role, my utmost priority is student achievement in academics, arts, and sports. Furthermore, I am committed to fostering a positive and inclusive school culture where every student, teacher, and staff member feels supported and empowered to operate in their talents.

I have been an educator for 19 years, with the most recent years as the Associate Principal for Curriculum and Instruction at Spring High School. I have also served as an Assistant Principal at Ross Sterling Middle School in Humble ISD, a Science Instructional Coach, and a Science Teacher. This diverse experience has equipped me with a deep understanding of the educational landscape and a passion for supporting students' growth. I look forward to building strong relationships with all members of the Bailey Middle School community as we strive to provide the best possible education and experiences for our students.

Ms. Jy'Syria D. Selmon, Associate Principal

Greetings, Buccaneers!

I am Jy’Syria D. Selmon, and I am delighted to serve as the Associate Principal this year. I am a proud Mississippian turned Houstonian entering my 15th year in Education and my 12th year here at Bailey, so I believe it is safe to say that I am definitely “TEAM BAILEY”!  I have had the opportunity to serve in many roles as an educator including both a 6th and 8th grade ELAR teacher, teacher leader, testing coordinator, registrar, cheer coach, student activities sponsor, and Assistant Principal.  I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and my Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Southern Mississippi.  “Southern Miss to the Top!”  I moved to Texas in 2013 after having taught in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and I’ve been a proud Bailey Buccaneer ever since!

I am eager to work with each of you, and I am looking forward to an amazing year of growth and achievement at The Rickey C. Bailey School for Performing and Visual Arts.

Dr. Kimberly Booker, 6th Grade Assistant Principal

Hello, Bailey Buccaneers!

My name is Dr. Kimberley Booker and I’m honored to be the 6th grade assistant principal this school year. This is my 29th year in education and I’ve served in the role as teacher, lead teacher, literacy coach and literacy specialist. I’ve also served as  District curriculum specialist, District RTI Coordinator, and Dean of Instruction. When I’m not working, I spend time volunteering as a school board president and as the CEO of two non profit organizations for girls and boys.

I’m all in with Bailey Middle School and my desire is for all students to succeed in 6th grade. This is our year to excel and be an exemplar for the entire district.

Mrs. Shalyndrea Sterling Teel headshot

Mrs. Shalyndrea Sterling Teel, 7th grade Assistant Principal

Hello Bailey Bucs,

With over 20 years of experience in education, Mrs. Sterling-Teel first joined Spring ISD as a district development specialist in 2014. The following school year, she transitioned to campus leadership at Wells Middle School. Mrs. Sterling-Teel also previously served as an administrator at Twin Creeks Middle School and The School for International Studies at Bammel.

Prior to joining the Spring ISD team, her career journey began in Beaumont ISD and West-Orange Cove Consolidated school districts as a middle school mathematics teacher, numeracy specialist, mathematics coach, academic coordinator, and dean of instruction. Mrs. Sterling-Teel earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Lamar University and a Master of Science Degree in Educational Leadership from Walden University.

As an educational forerunner, Mrs. Sterling-Teel views a collaborative school environment as the key to developing successful teachers and students. She believes partnerships with parents and community members are essential to enriching the educational experience. 

In her free time, Mrs. Sterling-Teel enjoys spending time with family.  She is a huge football fan and enjoys going to the beach, traveling, and watching Law and Order.

J. Jackson

Mr. Justin Jackson, 8th grade Assistant Principal

Hello Bailey Buccaneers!  My name is Justin Jackson and I am the 8th grade assistant principal.  I am excited to be a part of this winning team.  I was born and raised in Northeast Houston.  I join the Bailey team with more than 19 years of experience in the education field.  

I began my career at the Harris County Department of Education working with after-school initiatives.  I spent 5 years teaching and tutoring students in Channelview ISD and I spent some time in Galena Park ISD as an instructional coach.  I have been an assistant principal in Spring for 5 years at McNabb Elementary.   I am excited about the opportunity to work in the exciting middle school environment.
